Origami Spoon 2007
I am most driven when I am designing for a purpose.
One day in my university dorm room I found myself with a bowl of fried rice to eat, and no utensils to eat it with. Instead of going out into the world and getting one however, like I suppose most people would do, I searched around my room for something that would suffice. Finding none, I sat back at my desk, and thought that perhaps I could fold a piece of letter-sized printer paper and shovel the rice in my mouth that way.
This origami spoon was the result, and I've used it many times since, even finding it sturdy enough to make it through whole bowls of soup, and strong enough to dig through thick sticky rice and noodles.
